I have always been a man of mirth, and a believer in myths. If I now look unhappy, there is a reason. The last few years have been rough.
The economy fell apart like a two-dollar watch in late 2007 and has hung around like your brother in law after Thanksgiving dinner. I think of all the things I was to accomplish after starting this blog, and compare those ambitions with what faces me each day.
I feel like a hit and run victim whose taxi is stalled on a pavement called yesterday, looking for the tag number to the vehicle called livelihood. Is it game over? The reality is as real as the puke I cleaned up this morning, or the cab beater who took off running without payment. I remember the many hopes and dreams I associated with moving to Florida and working in a thriving taxi industry. These dreams are now just cracks in the sand caused by a relentless Florida sun beating on you without mercy until all resolve is gone.
I fell as many of us do. There are fleeting glimpses of hope, a vision of what may again be a better day. Then fatigue sets in, and how long can you keep chasing the $2.25 a mile prospect of a better day brought to you by the taxi Gods. Will this economy ever get better? Will it be in time? Is a recovering economy more faith then fact?
I believe it is turning the corner. I really do hope so. I am getting to old for this shit folks.

$510 a week, $5 a gallon gas, inflation in food, housing and construction gone. We are not in good shape. Holding on to yesterday is all I can do to keep my sanity.

I hear you, amigo. Times are tough and unfortunately I see them getting tougher before they are going to get better.
It won't be long before the living will envy the dead with the way things are going and I am normally the optomist.

well tim,I had to post this comment on3/31/11 on this page.It seems that united cab wants the 500 dollars for the grandfather lease +$10 towards the 500 bond limit even though they are breaching the contract. Weekly drivers lease end at midnight wed.due thurs.; with a grace period of fri. morning.if i interpret correctly;our leases are paid before the april first beginning which initiates the new 500 smackers due to drive this 365,000 mile ancient relic while my cab is being fixed. Here is something different.I find that the blackberry operates much more efficiently when there are hardly any drivers working and there is no business.lol by the way it still is a pain in the ass to use.Rumor has it that one of the drivers was talking to the cab commission about the b.b. and that it will be discussed either in house or at the ptc meeting. That's all tim for now just have to pay the man the increase:as moses said let my people go.I guess you can correlate that to making bricks without straw to making 500 without business in the summer and gas going up and up. So long for now from one of the remaining bagel brothers.P.S. I have to always check your site because management doesn't have the foggiest idea that night drivers need to be informed about the policy changes.and if you have any comments e-mail me you have my e-mail address from your site.
